As fall settles in and the crisp, cool air fills Pointe Coupee Parish, there’s no better way to warm up than with a steaming bowl of gumbo. On November 2, 2024, the community will come together for a cause as Daiquiri Diner, a beloved local establishment and member of the Greater Pointe Coupee Chamber of Commerce, hosts a Charity Gumbo Cookoff in New Roads.
Gumbo chefs from around the state will converge in New Roads @ The Daquiri Diner to challenge their peers to a friendly competition for the best tasting gumbo.
This is the 7th annual event and the winner (or winning team) will pick the charity of their choice where 100% of all proceeds will be donated. The Daiquiri Diner will provide bowls and rice, but participants will be responsible for providing all tables, cooking gear, etc.
No pre-registration is needed. Cooks will pay a $25.00 entry fee and any type of gumbo is eligible. Cooks may arrive and start cooking at 9:00 am and gumbo must be ready @ 3:00 pm where a group of independent judges will announce a winner.
A $5.00 donation will get those attending a taste of all different gumbos and the opportunity to vote on “The People’s Choice Award.”
To date over $15,000 has been raised for various charities. A silent auction will also take place. For more information, please call Belina at 337-277-1250 or Kurt at 225-603-7831.
